HS2Edit FAQ Updated 2002.10.17 Configuration FAQ ------------------------------------------------------- 1. Nothing happens when I open HS2Edit: I don't get a configuration message, or a custom toolbar. Your security setting in Excel is probably set to "High". This setting will not allow any macros to be enabled, and they must be enabled for HS2Edit to work. Set the security setting to "Medium" using the Excel menu command "Tools> Macros>Security" 2. When I open HS2Edit, I get a "Security" warning message about macros. HS2Edit is packed with macros, and it is these macros that do all of the work. You must enable the macros, or HS2Edit will do nothing for you. 3. When I open HS2Edit, I get a message saying that it is not configured. HS2Edit keeps track of your preferences and settings in a separate file called "HS2Edit-Prefs.txt". Everytime that HS2Edit opens it. But on first use, that file does not exist and must be created. 4. Why does HS2Edit need to be configured? In order to handle many tasks for you automatically, HS2Edit needs to know the locations of several files. In all cases, it needs to know where your HS2 database files are located. In most cases, it needs to know where several other files are located. These files are used to convert between the Palm database format and Excel, or to install the newly modified databases to your Palm, or even to provide the ability for custom navigation. 5. What does "Automatic configuration" do? Automatic configuration will try to locate all of the necessary files for you. It will look in the Windows registry to find your Palm hotsynch names, and will try to identify your Palm backup directory. It searches the HS2Edit folder for the required additional files. It tries to determine if you are using a Windows or Mac system. 6. What happens when auto-configure doesn't find all of the necessary information? HS2Edit will prompt you to configure manually. 7. How do I configure manually? You can access the manual configuration window at any time from the HS2Edit custom menu. Select "HS2Edit>Tools> Configure". The first thing you may want to do is to click the "Check configuration" button. You will see a dialogue that lists all the things that might be wrong with your configuration. When you have made the necessary changes then click OK and the configuration will be saved. The "Manual Configuration" window includes a "help" button which will describe all of the controls on the form in detail. 8. Can I reconfigure HS2Edit later? Yes, you can go back to the manual configuration window at any time and make changes. 9. I am a Mac user and many of the controls on the configuration form are disabled for me. When HS2Edit determines that your system has a Mac OS, it sets certain options on the configuration form for you, and often it disables the control so that you cannot change the setting. This is because some settings would cause errors with a Mac OS. 10. What is the "Custom Naviagtor" button for? By default, when you navigate through folder and file lists within HS2Edit, you are using a Windows navigator. This navigator does not work on a Mac, so a custom navigator has been provided with HS2Edit. Windows users may also find the custom navigator to be useful, because it allows the dislplay of files to be limited ONLY to HandyShopper2 database names, eliminating from view any files that cannot be imported anyway. 11. What is the "Manual PDB/CSV Conversion" button for? Mac users cannot use the normal HS2 file converter, HS2Convert.exe, because that application runs only in a windows environment. So a manual converter has been supplied with HS2Edit. Windows users can also use this converter, but there is really no advantage in doing so. HS2Covnert.exe is recommended for all Windows users.
